Introduction

As a consequence of Covid-19 people across the world have been forced out of their routines and ‘normal lives’ into the confinement of their own homes. A large and significant part of this population is comprised of children. This ‘new normal’ has brought about heightened uncertainty that further affects the mental health of children who are faced with a world within their households without the liberties of unmonitored free play. This project strives to imagine a way to enable children to continue to engage in free play despite being indoors, under the supervision of adults and faced with the need to constantly be productive, in order to help alleviate stress and anxiety experienced by children during the pandemic.

Explorations

In order to attempt to arrive at a solution, we engaged in various design sprint activities including Reverse Storming, What Ifs and Crazy 8s. We began with Reverse Storming where we tried to look at the problem in a reversed way. Instead of asking how we could solve the problem, we tried identifying how we could cause the problem thereby helping us eliminate the possibility of arriving at undesirable solutions. Subsequently, we engaged in the What If method of ideation to begin probing into possible solutions. Here we asked ourselves to imagine the various possibilities and avenues the solution could tap into. Finally, we attempted the Crazy 8 Method of ideation where each of the team's members came up with 8 cray solutions which we then collated and analyzed in order to make sense and arrive at final output.
